Carissa is a sophomore at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas, Austin and a member of Alpha Phi sorority where she volunteers with the recruitment team and the red dress gala, a fundraiser for the American Heart Association benefitting women’s heart research.  Carissa founded Reading Around the World after learning from her aunt Theo about the condition of schools in Tanzania.  She served as President of RAWLI’s first Youth Advisory Committee, and has travelled to Tanzania three times to help build libraries and teach technology to students.  She helped organize Reading Around the World’s first technology camp in 2018.  An accomplished dancer, Cara was active with the Vandegrift High School’s Legacies Dance Team and danced as a member of the Vision Dance Company accompanying the marching band, winning the Texas State UIL championship.  She was a distinguished finalist for Prudential’s Spirit of Community Award and named a “Legend” by RecognizeGood in honor of her visionary spirit and dedication to improving the world.  She is excited to work with such an amazing team of friends and volunteers and is grateful for the community sponsors who are helping make the dream of RAWLI a reality.
