To the extent feasible, our Youth Advisory Council makes decisions. The Board of Directors are the adults legally and fiscally responsible for the organization. The Board mentors the YAC and oversees the administrative and financial operations of the organization. Together, the Board and YAC form RAWLI’s Governance Team.
Theo Andrew McKinnis
Theo is a Tanzanian native and an emerging fashion designer. Her Mash Up teams for Austin Fashion Week won the People’s Choice Award in 2015 and 2016. Licensed to practice law in Tanzania, Theo has served as a board member at Furaha House and also volunteers with the KCOP Radio as a radio programmer. She founded the International Multicultural Community, which promotes multicultural awareness and diversity. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, networking, volunteering, creating African designs and organizing events and festivals. The Andrew family is originally from the Kilimanjaro area of Tanzania and most of the family now lives in Dar es Salaam. This cause is close to her heart as she believes in education and a literate world. The two cuties with Theo are her daughters Shani and Vanessa.
Monika served for 11 years as the Digital Resources Specialist/Cybrarian for the Fashion Institute of Design Management in Los Angeles, helping students navigate the digital resources of the world. She managed subscriptions to 24 databases at 4 FIDM campuses in addition to assisting students with traditional library management services. She instructed students, faculty and staff on database functionality and capabilities and facilitated special events and guest speakers. She currently works for SEMA and previously served for 13 years in public relations for Freeman/McCue, coordinating press events and automotive shows for Isuzu Motors. Her enthusiasm for libraries started at a young age and she has a passion for making the world a brighter place through education. Monika’s husband is legally blind so she has compassion and a special interest in helping vision-impaired students.
Maria has extensive experience leading and growing early-stage high tech companies in information technology and cyber security. She brings expertise in corporate strategy, business development and marketing and sales with a proven track record for implementing cutting-edge cyber solutions for Fortune 500 and government clients. Maria loves big ideas and brings exceptional capacity to formulate business development strategies and implement results. A graduate of MIT’s Sloan School of Business, Maria is an out-of-the box thinker, with strong relationship-building skills. She is excited to help us partner with more schools, reach more children and track results.
Lisa Page Mallory
Lisa served for six years as Trustee of the Leander Independent School District, serving more than 37,000 students at 40 campuses. As one of the fastest-growing school districts in the nation, LISD faced the challenge of implementing an aggressive construction program, while improving academic excellence.. During her tenure, LISD nearly closed the achievement gap in graduation rates among economically disadvantaged students, reading scores for 2nd graders rose, the District introduced student leadership programs into the curriculum and expanded the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Prior to serving as a school board Trustee, Lisa graduated from UCLA and had 30 years experience in project management in technology, construction and real estate.
Maria Shayo, Tanzania Liaison
Maria is Headmistress of the Gerezani Primary School in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, a school serving nearly 400 students. She helps identify needs and coordinate with local support agencies to facilitate implementation of RAWLI’s programs.
