Karakata Primary School is located in one of the poorest areas of Dar es Salaam.  Because there is no budget for repairs, over the years the roof has worn and developed leaks.  This prevents Reading Around the World from constructing library shelving since shelving would be destroyed in the event of rain.

Nepal / Earthquake disaster / 12-year-old Nanu Tatya standing in front of a rubble in Bhaktapur in the outskirts of Kathmandu. Nanu is still scared from the earthquake. She was too afraid to speak about the massive quake and the aftershocks. Her relatives said her house had been destroyed and she was living in a plastic tent with her family. / UNHCR / Brian Sokol / 29 April 2015

The books have been placed into storage baskets that the children carry to the library each day.  Over 1,000 books are hand carried by the students so they can study in the library.  A new roof would allow us to construct library shelving and create a permanent home for the books inside of the library and technology center.]
